Mundane Decay
Capsule Collection
In the heart of a bustling city lies the remnants of a forgotten structures. Once grand, they now stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. “Mundane Decay” explores the intersection of elegance and desolation. I drew inspiration from the haunting allure of abandoned buildings, where crumbling walls and exposed materials intertwine with echoes.
Material Research
I chose silk chiffon to symbolize the fleeting beauty amidst decay. Its translucency hints at hidden stories and mysteries concealed.
I took all original street/experimental photography to use as inspiration for my collection
Structure/Materials
I traveled to a few construction sites and areas where houses had been burned down and abandoned to get a first hand look at the conditions. From the weathered down walls to the caved in rooftops, it was full of emotion and I wasn’t able to look away. Wool cashmere was chosen as the main fabric to symbolize resilience.
Look 3 Research
For the third look the top is adorned with a burlap netting overlay which mimics the insulation of abandoned buildings. I painted gesso strokes to mimic aged plaster. And lastly, the large skirt ebraces destruction through the shredded chiffon
Look One
The boning channels exposed along the neckline of this look draws inspiration from worn down buildings where metal structures peek through. Around the hips the inset silk chiffon reflects the chaotic imagery found within layers of a collapsed wall.
Look Two
In the second and third look, neutral colors convey the muted palette of weathered structures. Shredded chiffon is reminiscent of tattered curtains billowing in abandoned doorways The soldered metal accents appear melted and distorted and symbolize the industrial grit of urban landscapes.
